EC to declare results Wednesday; awaits only two regions
The Chair of the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) has assured that results of the presidential elections will be declared not later than Wednesday, December 9.
Jean Adukwei Mensa expressed regret that the results were not declared within 24 hours as intended but explained that it was as a result of rains in some constituencies and challenges filed by political parties to some of the results in other constituencies.
“We also experienced some challenges with the regions particularly some of the areas in the hinterlands, Western North to be precise.
“It was difficult for our officers to travel to the regional capitals and to send the results there.”
She disclosed this Wednesday dawn while addressing journalists at the Commission’s headquarters in Accra.
She said so far results from 14 out of the 16 regions have been received with seven of them already certified.
So far, Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama has a total of 1,997,450 votes with New Patriotic Party’s Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo with a total of 1,500,310.
Mrs Mensa further indicated that in a few hours the rest will also be certified and with the reception of the remaining two regional results, the elections will be declared.
So far, results from the Northern and Bono East Regions are yet to be received.
